Deria

Deria is an environmental education non-profit, ground-up initiative based in Malaysia that is focused on communicating science for climate action and is funded by the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur, in partnership with the UK Science and Innovation Network and the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), and supported by EcoKnights. In 2022, UNESCO has recognized Deria under its Green Citizens initiative, amplifying the voices of 100 citizen-led projects worldwide dedicated to biodiversity and sustainable development annually: We are a collective of impact-driven early professionals from across ASEAN, united by a shared fervor to safeguard our planet from the pressing climate crisis. Our endeavor took root as part of the 'Communicating Science for Climate Action' grant competition, generously funded by the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur in partnership with the UK Science and Innovation Network and the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), and supported by EcoKnights. We are immensely grateful and honoured that Deria has been selected as a winner under the theme of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Reports on Global Warming (For Teachers/Educators): 1) To promote gamification and multisensory learning methodology. 2) To create a better experience for students on environmental education. 3) To cultivate green values and mindset among students. To achieve these objectives, we believe by introducing elements of gamification and multisensory learning, complex climate science concepts can be understood better by the younger generation. Our signature Environmental Education Playbook for Educators will empower teachers to break the barriers of communicating hard science to young students. The Playbook will feature choices of activities to be adapted in lesson plans by teachers to shape and nurture climate-conscious future leaders.
