Design Qua was founded in Bangkok and LA in 2005. We have brought with us the experience, expertise and approach to design and building from our previous life in California. The biggest challenge we found from working in SE Asia is its very hot and humid climate. However, we found many clues of how to deal with these challenges from the dwindling vernacular examples around us. The cultural context is an inspiration and influences the way we think, design and build. THOUGHTS Since every act of building is also an act of reshaping an environment, the way we employ technology and our choices of materials can reconnect rather than separate us from nature. The way we build also says a lot about how we see our community today, and how we dream it to be in the future. We call this “sustainable” design. APPROACH Outstanding architecture begins with a successful relationship between client and architect. Design is a collaborative process.From clearly expressed goals, the initial design concepts are then explored through sketches, drawings and three-dimensional investigations.We also pride ourselves in the rigor of developing early ideas into well-articulated construction solutions, because someone once so aptly said that “god is in the details”. LAST WORDS As architects and designers we relish in the act of reshaping our physical environment to make things and create places that have a sympathetic relationship with nature, and like nature, grow and age gracefully over time.
