Glass is made from sand. And we are using 50 billion tons of it every year to make it. Sand is being used at a faster rate than the earth can create it. Sand is harvested from riverbeds and seabeds, disrupting the ecosystems from which they are taken from. This can lead to increased risk of flooding and erosion in those areas. The jar candle is the PREFERRED candle choice, and while they are beautiful there is a lot of waste associated with them. Once the candle has been used up, the majority of people will throw the jar away thus creating more unnecessary waste. The US alone disposes of over 12.5 million tons of glass containers each year. Of those who purchase jar candles, many regret having to dispose of the empty jars to the extent blogs encourage consumers to repurpose jars, demonstrating consumers are already seeking alternatives to wasting jars.
