Dr. G Plastic Surgery

Who is Dr. G? I figured out early in my plastic surgery career where my strengths as a plastic surgeon lie and what I really wanted to accomplish. While I have done scholarly work and performed research, written journal articles and book chapters, and taught residents and medical students during postgraduate fellowships, I knew that I wanted primarily to practice clinical medicine. And I wanted to be the one doing the surgery! I didn’t want to be stuck in a research lab or in front of a computer typing papers; I didn’t want to hand the instruments to a resident and walk him or her through a procedure as a professor. I wanted to do the surgery myself - every incision, every suture and every dressing, and I still do to this day. While I have been a member of professional societies and contributed to political organizations that advance the science and issues involved with plastic surgery locally, nationally, and internationally, and I have been involved in committees and held office, including President of San Diego Plastic Surgery Society, the politics of medicine have never appealed to me.
