It started with 15 girls, one borrowed room, and a bold belief: If we give girls a space to be seen, to be heard, and to lead, they will change the world. In 2015, we hosted our very first Dream On Purpose event at the A. Quinn Jones Community Center in Gainesville, Florida. Just 15 girls showed up, but what happened in that small room changed everything. They showed up hungry to grow, to connect, to dream. We saw something undeniable: girls were eager for safe spaces that celebrated their identity, nurtured their brilliance, and offered real tools for their future. So, we got to work building a program that would do just that. Today, Dream On Purpose (DOP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in equity, purpose, and possibility. For 10 years, we’ve empowered middle and high school youths to explore their identity, develop leadership skills, and take bold steps toward their dreams. Through youth-centered workshops, research-informed programming, mentorship, and storytelling initiatives, we’ve helped the next generation: • Use film to confront youth gun violence • Lead discussions on mental health, confidence, and self-worth • Connect with mentors, peers, and resources that shift their trajectory Our pillars are to educate, empower, and enrich, and we do it in partnership with schools, families, and funders who believe in the transformative power of girls’ leadership. Now, as we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, we stand on a decade of impact… and we’re only just beginning. With a new home base on the way and a growing network of supporters, DOP is poised to deepen our reach and reimagine what’s possible for the next generation. To Educate. To Empower. To Enrich.
