Dunnottar Castle
Located in the North East of Scotland next to the scenic harbour town of Stonehaven, Dunnottar Castle sits on a 160 foot rock, surrounded on three sides by the North Sea. From 1392 to 1715, Dunnottar Castle was the home of the Earls Marischal, once one of the most powerful families in Scotland. Now operating as a popular visitor attraction, the Castle welcomes visitors from all around the world and is open all year round. The Castle is open to independent visitors as well as coach parties. The Castle is a popular filming location and has been captured on the silver screen on numerous occasions. From 'Hamlet' featuring Mel Gibson and Glenn Close,'Victor Frankenstein' starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe to being an inspiration to Disney's 'Brave', the Castle provides a dramatic and evocative location. On the smaller screen, episodes of Sky Arts 'Landscape Artist of the Year 2024' and 'Ride With Norman Reedus' have been filmed at the Castle. The Castle is also a popular wedding venue, hosting weddings both inside and on the surrounding cliff tops between April and September.
