Dutch Canary

We welcome you to our finca on Gran Canaria. It’s locally know as ‘La Hoyatilla’ which can be best translated to ‘The Dimple’. This name is based on the finca’s comfortable and sheltered position on our mountain. The finca is surrounded by mountains that are almost barren. Once, they were covered by extensive pine forests. Cut down by mankind to fuel the growing rum production, it created space and opportunity for extensive agriculture. But during the last decades, more and more people exchanged the countryside and farm life for opportunities in Las Palmas or on the Spanish mainland, leaving behind abandoned and degrading terraces to remember us of those days. Barren, unused, lacking biodiversity and water, the mountains deteriorate quickly. We want to do something about that and change the tide on our mountain. We want to return the mountain to a natural state where it can provide its own water and fertility. This will make it flourish once again.
