With the advent of horizontal drilling and liquid fracturing, new sources of natural gas are being developed the world over on a scale never seen before. A lot of these new natural gas production sites are far from existing transport infrastructure which make these new sources of gas uneconomical to exploit. Examples of huge quantities of natural gas being flared and only LPG being commercialized because of lack of transport infrastructure abound in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and now in North America. LNG and GTL both provide solutions to this infrastructure issue. In a few words, if there is gas it has value and it should not be flared, it should be valorized. Think of it this way, if you have a gas field producing 2 million cubic feet of natural gas per day you can recover the LPG then liquefy the natural gas and ship by truck gallons of LPG per day. That’s only three LNG tanker trucks per day.
