Eclipz - Lighting Design

We are both industrial designers and both born in the Star Trek and Atari decade when Richard Long was photographing his «walks», Cindy Sherman was photographing her transformed identities and the rest of the world were recording their favorite movies in VHS and their music in audio cassettes. Two decades later, when designers were very concentrated explaining to the world what design really was, we thought that helping architects to defend their message to the client was valuable and necessary. And so, we formed Eclipz in 2008, when there were almost no independent lighting design offices in Portugal. Today most of the clients already have a relatively well-founded opinion about design and what they want from lighting designers. Still, each lighting designer has his own perspective of lighting, his own conception of beauty, and his own style. This is how we think about it: 1. We always respect the architectural own aesthetics by highlighting their more distinguished formal elements. We strive to achieve highly scenographic and stimulating solutions by contrasting low luminance lighting in a well-balanced visual hierarchy. Due to our academic route, we love to conceive unique solutions, even when it requires designing new luminaires or parts of luminaires. From our experience, it is always more grateful for everyone involved to attain proper luminaires in identity and functionality. Lighting is magical and has its intrinsic qualities. The less we use it, the more magic it appears to be. And this is probably the most important sentence to say about eco-efficiency lighting. We do apply research on lighting design, within academics, with real-world implementation. Because there is this wonderful scientific facet of lighting that makes it even more beautiful and that needs to be shared.
