Economic Development South

Economic Development South is a non-profit, community development corporation that takes a multi-municipal, corridor-based approach to economic development. EDS works collectively across City/County lines and builds consensus around a common interest in the redevelopment of the corridors (most notably: Route 51/Saw Mill Run Blvd, Brownsville Road, and Streets Run Road) that serve as our neighborhood commercial areas and as the transportation linkages to the rest of the region. EDS is a partnership of the Boroughs of Brentwood, Baldwin, Mt. Oliver, Pleasant Hills, Jefferson Hills, and Whitehall; and the city neighborhoods of Carrick, Brookline, and Overbrook. EDS also includes representatives from local business organizations, including the Brentwood-Baldwin-Whitehall Chamber of Commerce and the Brentwood Business Owners Association. EDS has 4 employees, including Executive Director Gregory Jones, and is governed by a board of directors comprised of representatives of our member municipalities and our local business community. EDS is focused on the redevelopment of commercial corridors in our neighborhoods as a means to attract and retain businesses and residents. Our mission is to facilitate investment and reinvestment, create jobs, and enhance the overall competitiveness of the area. We pursue projects and initiatives that reinforce and revitalize our local commercial districts, while encouraging long-term, sustainable, investment in our neighborhoods. EDS also advocates for regional transportation, planning, and economic development policies and programs that help further our mission, while working across municipal lines to encourage multi-municipal cooperation to address shared issues and concerns.
