Edge was established in 2016 as a Special Purpose Vehicle in promoting Open Access, Smart City, Smart Home and Passive Optical LAN networks across South Africa. The various national fibre and Smart City deployments are done on a BOM (Build, Operate and Maintain) basis. Edge is Supported by Nokia as a strategic partner from both a Technology and resource perspective. Edge Telecoms, a private company with limited liability, was established in 2012 and has been actively engaging in the communications industry, focussing primarily on the establishment, provision and installation of FTTx infrastructure and with a view of establishing value-added services in South Africa in due course. Edge Group structure consists of 3 established private sector companies namely: Edge Holdings, Edge Telecoms and Edge Smart Services.
