Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) of couples and families is a therapeutic model that puts emphasis on emotions as a leading force in people's lives. Founded in the 1980s by Dr. Sue Johnson in Canada, she has established worldwide the model as a working therapeutic approach for working with couples. In our practice, we meet couples who want more in their relationship. Some are trying to regain past passion with each other and others to survive as a couple. The turning point for most couples is not resolving certain disagreements and conflicts but finding new ways to connect and overcome the challenges together. The ETF therapist helps the couple understand how each partner contributes and participates in a repeated negative pattern of interaction - a "negative dance / vicious circle" that leads to insecurity, disappointment, tension and distance. The therapist helps partners break down the "negative dance" and create a positive, secure and intimate relationship. Emotionally Focused Therapy brings the message that people can have happy and satisfying relationships. This is more than a just another clinically proven approach. It helps couples experience deeper intimacy and deepen confidence and sense of security among themselves.
