Our Age of Anxiety is, in great part, the result of trying to do today’s jobs with yesterday’s tools- Marshall McLuhan We are moving from the Industrial Park to the Global Village. My focus is on how to turn our knowledge and talents into a sustainable income stream in the 21st Century. I predict that the Industrial Park Business Model will give way completely to the Global Village Model by the year 2030. If I am right, the businesses and careers that were pinned to the Industrial Park will be mired in a faulty knowledge base with a dwindling income stream. Schools and businesses that served the needs of the Industrial Park are already struggling to stay afloat. Yet, schools and businesses that have adapted to their role in the Global Village are thriving. The University of Florida and Amazon are already established in the Global Village. Arizona Virtual Academy offers top notch high school courses for free. Salt Lake City in Utah and Kansas City in Missouri top the list for the best places to work from home. My focus as an Education Futurist is to help struggling educators transition from 19th Century practices to 21st Century possibilities by the year 2030. As an Epistemophilic, I have spent many hours researching why the education systems of most industrial nations have been mired in practices better suited to our past than to our future. Our future matures in the here and now. If we persist in using archaic practices, by 2030 our education system will not be much different from what it was in 2030.
