Developing water filtration systems for communities that provide clean drinking water without the need for energy." That is Element15’s mission. Currently, lots of countries are recovering from the impact that COVID had on their food and water supply. Recent events, such as the war in Ukraine and the ongoing droughts, for example in the Horn of Africa, have complicated this recovery. Generally speaking, one could conclude that climate change, environmental- and humanitarian disasters currently severely pressure the availability of clean drinking water and sustainable food supply. Element15, therefore, wishes to be part of the solution to help improve food security and clean drinking water supply, especially for the most vulnerable communities and individuals. In this light, Element15 has developed a low-cost, manually operated system that can create a sustainable supply of clean drinking water. The system consists of the BAR clean drinking water backpack and a treadle pump. To evaluate its impact, Element15 has translated its mission into measurable indicators based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (see page SDG). These four indicators will help determining the impact that Element15 is making. They are tracked throughout the year and their impact will be shown in the annual report. Since these indicators will form the driving force behind Element15’s mission, future strategic decisions will therefore also be made with these indicators in mind.
