Emerging Pathogens Institute

In 2006, University of Florida faculty and researchers came together after recognizing a need for a facility that could drive pathogen-related research in Florida. Today, the Emerging Pathogens Institute serves as a world-class research environment that fuses key disciplines to lead over 250 distinguished faculty in their quests to understand novel infectious diseases and the challenges they pose to Florida, the nation and the world. Major areas of research include- COVID-19 - Vector-borne diseases (Zika, West Nile, Malaria, Dengue, Tick-borne Diseases)- Other viral pathogens (Influenza, HIV)- Tuberculosis/drug-resistant TB and non-TB mycobacterial disease - Enteric and foodborne illnesses - Cholera and other diarrheal diseases - Foodborne disease policy and control - Plant and food crop pathogens - Antibiotic resistance/hospital infection control (MRSA)- Zoonoses
