35 million Americans provide at-home care for their loved ones that are older or with a disabling condition, but providing at-home care places tremendous time and financial burden on these caregivers. Average caregiver spends 20 hours per week or more to take care of their loved ones and average out-of-pocket expense per caregiver is estimated to be EmpowrNet’s Pocket Care Manager (PCM) is a free mobile app for caregivers to help manage and improve sustainability of at-home care. The PCM helps caregivers build an effective informal care network with family, friends, neighbors and service providers while coordinating care delivery through an intuitive interface with project management capabilities. The PCM will go live February 2015. EmpowrNet will analyze the informal care networks in the system to identify common network failures, trends by geography and network demographics to provide real-time and predictive sales opportunities for professional service providers. EmpowrNet consists of four individuals, all with past startup experience. CEO Deborah Karns founded EmpowrNet in 2011 and is a healthcare industry veteran with over 25 years experience. Shintaro Kaido, Kelly Tran and Liv Hoang joined in 2014 to develop the Pocket Care Manager. Kaido has raised $2.0 million across 3 startups from angel groups and early stage funds. Tran and Hoang are serial entrepreneurs focused on mobile solutions with over 120 app releases and 13 startup launches.
