It costs more for people suffering from chronic homelessness to be left on the streets than it does to house and support them. End Homelessness SA (EHSA) does not agree that homelessness needs to exist at all in South Australia. Our motto is "More Than One" and it encapsulates what we want to inspire. We want South Australians, as governments, businesses and individuals, to realise together as a community that no single entity can end homelessness, but rather we must all accept ending homelessness as a worthy challenge. EHSA exists to create an awareness campaign to end homelessness in South Australia. It is a very possible reality that homelessness can indeed be solved. However, there is a vast gap between what we know is successful in getting people off the streets for good, as opposed to what is actually being done. Various programs have been implemented nationally and internationally which have had phenomenal results. Within Australia, there has been a 75 per cent success rate with the J2SI pilot program in getting people off the streets for good. These programs are centred around permanent housing models that are coupled with access to on-site support services. These houses are long-term, sustainable and secure for those living in them, and encourage the transition of people suffering from homelessness back into mainstream society. It is time that community and government began to inject funding into long-term, sustainable housing options and support programs. If a housing model that reflects those that have already proven to be highly successful across the globe is implemented in Adelaide, the issue of homelessness in our state will be solved. However, no non-profit organisation or government can achieve this alone. We need South Australia as a cohesive community to become involved.we need you to take action.
