Ensemble Imago

IMAGO is a modular chamber music ensemble specializing in original creations as well as traditional and modern classical repertoire. Its founding and principal members are Japanese composer Sato Matsui, Japanese pianist Rieko Tsuchida and Brazilian flutist Thomaz Tavares. The name IMAGO means the final stage of metamorphosis in insects such as butterflies in English and French, and the word henceforth in Japanese. With a particular focus on music and art as a conduit for inner and outer transformation, IMAGO often collaborates with artists from diverse disciplines to create concert experiences that are multi-sensory and visually immersive. Since its creation in 2021, IMAGO has performed on a number of French stages, including Salle Cortot, Château de Fontainebleau and Harmonies du Perche in Normandy, to name but a few. The ensemble has been in artistic residence at the United States Foundation since 2021. Their early years coincide with the COVID-19 pandemic, during which time they begin their many collaborations with video artist Kadia Ouabi to offer a dynamic, immersive virtual listening experience that captures the experience and energy of being on stage among musicians.
