Ensemble Mik Nawooj

The mission of Ensemble Mik Nawooj (EMN) is to create a concert music of tomorrow via Method Sampling, a principle of borrowing and sampling foreign rationales and by reframing them to render a new system. Since its inception, EMN took the forms of both hip-hop and classical equally seriously, applying rigorous processes in composition and performance while building our own language of music from the bottom up with every new piece the artistic director, JooWan Kim composed. This omnivorous approach of not only relying on the western European aesthetic but also hip-hop, allows EMN to realize a new common practice and generate a prototype of future performing arts that is radically inclusive. We believe that the future must be built with people of various backgrounds, including the ones with ideologies that are seemingly incompatible with our own. Furthermore, we believe that if we sample and reframe differences, we can change everything. Help us continue on our endeavor by donating.
