Erinnerungsort Badehaus

In the BADEHAUS in Waldram (formerly Föhrenwald) history can be experienced as if in fast motion: From 1940 onwards the Nazis erected a model settlement in the Wolfratshausen Forest for workers in the arms industry. Towards the end of the war the concentration camp death march passed here. Then Föhrenwald became a camp for Jewish Displaced Persons, who had survived the Holocaust. From 1956 onwards mostly Catholic expellees with a lot of children were relocated here and the place was renamed Waldram. Up to this day traces of this unique history of migration can be found here. It is recounted vividly and multimedially in the newly erected place of remembrance BADEHAUS. A citizens’ initiative saved the building from demolition and has built a place of remembrance, of encounters and education there.
