European Basic Skills Network - Ebsn

The European Basic Skills Network - EBSN, is an association of policy level stakeholders engaged in basic skills training for adults. Our objective is to promot excellence in policy design and policy implementation at European and national level in a field that has considerable impact on education, employment, social inclusion, the fight against poverty, and sustainable economic growth. The EBSN’s vision is to make sure that all inhabitants of Europe have the level of basic skills they need to have access to lifelong learning, ensure their employability and be active citizens. EBSN currently has 76 European member organisations (6 more from other parts of the world), which all contribute to better policy and practice for the enhancement of basic skills in the European population by - benchmarking national policy and effects - exchanging examples of promising policy and practice at national or regional level - creating a common knowledge area through the exchange and distribution of research results - facilitating cooperation between European stakeholders - raising awareness about relevant issues - creating a common pool of resources - establishing cooperation with relevant stakeholders outside Europe In 2014 EBSN was invited to take a major role as a consortium partner in developing and delivering relevant content to the EPALE (Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe) website and in facilitating the involvement of users in professional discussions as well as in sharing of information and resources relevant in the field of basic skills. EBSN is represented in the Editorial Board of EPALE, takes part in meetings with the Executive Agency, responsible for the thematic coordination of “life skills” which includes systematic collection of information, studies, best practices in the theme, presentation of news and events, publishing articles etc. Coordination of EBSN activities and contribution is being taken care of by the EBSN Secretariat.
