Evidence Based General Surgery Evigs

EVIDENCE BASED GENERAL SURGERY (EVIGS) was developed to foster critical appraisal skills in practicing surgeons and trainees (undergraduate students, medical students). EVIGS aims to evaluate surgical literature and contribute to the practice of Evidence Based Surgery through production of evidence-based reviews, meta-analysis, cohort studies, and guidelines in General Surgery. This requires knowledge of study design, statistics, outcomes assessment, meta-analysis, decision analysis, cost effectiveness, and most importantly, effective collaboration skills. At EVIGS, we connect local and international experts in surgery, clinical epidemiology, and health research methodologists to evaluate emerging surgical literature. In this context, we collaboratively assess the strengths and weaknesses of current practice compared to the risks and benefits of new approaches to care. We also utilize multiple-linked databases in Canada to answer original research questions. We empower surgeons around the world to participate in this evaluative process and apply the best practices possible to the patients they serve.
