EVO Advisors provides analysis in the evolving givingscape that encompasses individuals, family offices, corporate and traditional philanthropy, as well as corporate social responsibility. Though the donors in the philanthropic sector have largely remained the same, the what and how we give have seen dramatic changes. It's no longer simply time and money; now it's data and assets. DAFs are positioned nicely to accept non-financial assets. And now we're sending our medical data like blood pressure, heart rate and DNA to platforms we use for the devices we wear, and to genealogy sites like Ancestry.com and 23andme. These platforms are free to turn around, with our implied consent, to sell that data to pharmaceutical companies. How we give has seen changes as well, with DAFs absorbing nearly 20% of total charitable giving. Crowdfunding platforms that give directly to those in need, skirting nonprofits and the tax incentive; however, without much accountability for how the money is spent. We're still making the majority of our giving during the end of the year, from Thanksgiving until Christmas; leaving nonprofits to struggle with fundraising deficits through the majority of the year. In-depth analysis of emerging trends and critiques of conventional standards is the baseline for reevaluating your current programs; whether maturing CSR strategies that too closely mimic traditional philanthropy, without solving any of the problems; to partnership assessment strategies, where new channels of support can be discovered; or evolving grant making strategies to increase the amount given and even the frequency. There are many ways to support nonprofits with non-traditional grant opportunities such as enterprise seed capital and endowment funding. There is plenty of room for innovation in this field. Giving technology is far ahead of our antiquated giving methods.
