THE ART OF LYRICAL SAMPLING The visualized art of metaphorically sampling short phrases of lyrics, as popularized within hip-hop music, for the purpose of creating an original work which offers graphic interpretation and further significance to the sampled lyrics. STRUCTURE The art form can be compared to the structure or architecture of hip-hop music: THE HOOK/CHORUS The sampled lyrics which provide the theme and concept for the design. THE VERSES/RAPS The graphic art which provides an in-depth exploration or perhaps new perspective on the sampled lyrics. THE BEAT/INSTRUMENTAL The article of clothing upon which the sampled lyrics and graphic art is incorporated. THE SONG/TRACK The final product which consists of the sampled lyrics, graphic art and article of clothing. HISTORY In 1997, Excursions Clothing productized and cultivated this art form during an era of streetwear when logos and branding dominated the scene. While the Excursions "Classic Material" collection represents a modernized yet nostalgic look from the company’s past, we look forward to utilizing the “Lyrical Sampling” artform to further develop new product collections which draw upon new and classic tracks.
