Exploring, etc is run by me, Pete. I have a life-long passion for being out in nature. I had a free-range childhood in woods and farmland and what we called "mucking about" as kids has become the focus of my work. I now live in Whitley Bay and love being able to see the sea everyday. I love exploring the North East either on foot, on a bike, in a canoe. I am currently studying for a Masters in Outdoor Education. In my studies I have discovered a mounting body of evidence that links nature-connectedness with stress alleviation, health and wellbeing. As an outdoor educator, I have over 10 years helping people reconnect to natural environments. My experiences chime with the latest research, that we connect to nature through sensory, emotional, aesthetic, meaningful and compassionate experiences. The five pathways to deeper connection to nature can be incorporated into everyday life through simple and enjoyable activities. It doesn't matter what you know about the natural world, or how much time you spend in beautiful natural places, it is how you engage with nature that makes the important difference. NATURE CONNECTEDNESS GROUP WORKSHOPS Based from one of several beautiful locations in the North East, I offer evidence-based workshops that share activities for connection with nature. Workshops are bespoke to the needs of the organisation and attendees, but can include: Beach walks which might include, rock pooling, beach combing, spotting birds and seals. Bushcraft such as spoon-making, fire-lighting, campfire cooking and shelter building. Arts inspired by nature which could include retro photography, storytelling or sketching. For a more adventurous group, I can offer canoeing, raft-building, hill walking, gorge walking and rock climbing. Ultimately,"mucking about" outside has lead me to life changing experiences in beautiful natural places. I can help your organisation find connection through nature too.
