Fairy Bricks

Fairy Bricks is a charitable organisation registered in England and Wales (no 1161639) established in 2015 with the aim of improving the health, well-being and recovery of children in hospitals and hospices through play. Play is an important factor in any child's life and within the context of a hospital stay becomes increasingly important as it not only provides the children with normality throughout their stay but also aids in the child's recovery. Play and recreation helps the children focus on happy positive activities, thereby reducing worries and anxieties about their illness or treatment. It can provide a channel for their frustrations and whilst immersed in play distracts the child from their clinical, often difficult, surroundings. We work closely with hospital play specialists and teams to deliver donations of LEGO that match their requirements. Using our knowledge of LEGO and experience of over 100 hospital donations across the United Kingdom and beyond we provide advice on the suitability of sets depending on how a hospital intends to use the sets. Sometimes the sets remain in ward play rooms, and smaller sets can be built in bed by children unable to leave their rooms. On other occasions they are given to children to keep as gifts after a difficult procedure, however we leave those decisions with the play team. They know the specific needs of their children far better than we ever could and our focus is firmly on delivering the LEGO to meet those needs. We fund the hospital donations through a range of charitable activities, primarily within the LEGO fan community and can often be found engaging with the public at LEGO shows and events across the UK. In addition we have partnered with a number of companies to provide tailored and extremely rewarding community engagement activities to the benefit of the company employees, Fairy Bricks and the public.
