Drillstring repair and replacement is a major cost on drilling rigs today. Box threads should get a uniform layer of pipe dope before racking. Pitting and galling on threads and shoulder are mostly related to insufficient coverage of dope. The Dope Application Machine (DAM) patent is a rotating brush that fits the box threads. Dope is applied through independent channels inside the brush. The doping sequence takes typically 10-15 sec, is done when POOH after the IR has unscrewed the stand and before ready to start pulling the next. The DAM will save rig time and reduces drillstring maintenance cost. Safety will improve as there will be no need for crews to enter the red zone to dope the saver sub on drilling connections.
