Feed The Babies Fund

Feed the Babies Fund was founded in 1957 by Drs Zelda Jacobson and Kark (Natal University). We are a small organisation based in Glenwood, Durban (002-273 NPO). We are an approved Section 18A PBO. Our projects are focused on Early Childhood Development with the attention to 3 fundamental aspects: 1. Early Childhood Development Training for carers/practitioners 2. The supply of cereal to combat malnutrition in pre-school children 3. Building the institutional capacity of ECD Centres in rural KZN Our objectives are to provide an educative, stimulating, and safe environment for children through the education of the carers in various ECD Courses; to provide food security for the children; to monitor & evaluate the ECD Centres regularly. From 1957 to 2008, we fed babies and pre-school children through various organisations and schools in KZN. From 2009 we started providing rural ECD Centres with a fortified, concentrated cereal because there is no Government-funded daily nutritional support programme for ECD Centres. In 2015, we started training carers, from the rural ECD Centres, in various Early Childhood Development courses. This journey led to Feed the Babies Fund's accreditation through ETDP SETA (EDTP 10689), and the acquisition of our training centre in Osizweni, Newcastle area. Rural ECD Centres often do not have running water or electricity, and not much in the way of equipment, teaching resources or educational toys. The centres are manned by carers, who do not have the training to teach the children an ECD syllabus. It is within this context that we support unfunded ECD Centres. We focus on supplying nutrition to the pre-school children and training to the carers. We feed pre-school children daily.
