Fifty Barrels Winery Group Crafting Passion. Building Wineries. Growing a Movement. Fifty Barrels Winery Group began with a simple passion project—making wine in a garage in the late 1990s. What started as a hobby quickly transformed into an award-winning venture and one of the first urban wineries in Southern California. Originally founded as Carlsbad Coastal Winery in Carlsbad, CA, we sourced premium grapes from Paso Robles and Temecula to craft small-batch wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and a wide array of creative blends. As our footprint expanded, we evolved into Fifty Barrels Winery Group—a bonded urban winery collective built to support and empower other small producers. Our mission was twofold: make exceptional wine and help others do the same. At our Vista, CA facility, we provided space, equipment, and guidance for aspiring winemakers to launch their own labels. Over 20 wineries in the San Diego region emerged during our time, with more than 15 receiving direct support and consulting through Fifty Barrels. From fermentation to barrel aging, bottling, and distribution, we fostered a community of hands-on, quality-focused winemakers dedicated to pushing the boundaries of urban winemaking. With a vibrant tasting room and deep roots in the local craft scene, Fifty Barrels became a destination for wine lovers and a launchpad for boutique wine brands. Though we closed our doors in 2018, our legacy lives on in the brands we helped build and the vines we continue to grow.
