File Under Pop

File Under Pop is directed by Josephine Yaa Akuamoa, For over a decade, she has led the Copenhagen-based studio and showroom with a vision rooted in craftsmanship, materiality, and artistic freedom. At File Under Pop, walls, floors, and ceilings are treated as expressive fields — surfaces that invite bold, tactile transformation. Through handcrafted ceramic tiles, Sicilian lavastone, bespoke paint, textiles, and lavastone boards, the studio continues to expand its layered language of interiors. Lavastone is quarried from Mount Etna in Sicily, 20–30 meters deep where the stone has compacted over thousands of years. It is then glazed, decorated by hand, and kiln-fired into luminous, resilient ceramic. Lavastone also appears in sculptural boards — portable objects designed as trays, art pieces, or functional design accents. Terracotta tiles are shaped from clay sourced near Valencia, Spain, and produced using traditional, time-honored techniques. Paint is developed in collaboration with the Jotun Group, Norway’s leading paint manufacturer. Infused with copper, white gold, and 23-carat gold leaf, the palette evokes depth, texture, and quiet richness. Textiles are a further extension of the studio’s surface philosophy — woven sheets crafted with care, designed for multi-use as bedding, towels, tablecloths, or curtains. Patterns, inspired by pinstripes and music sheets, express a playful and imaginative process. Wallpaper, produced in-house in Copenhagen, is used selectively — framed or freestanding, a single sheet is a sculptural intervention that defines a space.
