I am a landscape photographer now based in Sebastopol, California after thirty years living in Sausalito, California just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. My images are black and white. Usually with considerable pre-meditation, I capture them on film, not digitally. I expose very few negatives, and not all of those result in what I consider to be "good" photographs. I use an old Hasselblad 500 C/M with four fixed-focal-length lenses. I develop my negatives and then scan them with a high resolution film scanner to create large digital files on which I do tone and contrast adjustments and sometimes minor cropping in PhotoShop. The size of my scanned files allows me to make prints as large as five feet by five feet and still retain high resolution. Being a thirty-year resident of Sausalito before moving to the wine country, I have confined my search for subjects to the transcendent beauty of San Francisco and the nearby coast. My quest for subjects leads to a lot of driving the City's streets and the coast's roads, and walking the City's sidewalks and the countryside's paths and trails. I am looking for views in the cityscape, landscape or seascape that I find dramatic. Most often, I am alone in my searching; and always my surroundings are pleasant if not sublimely beautiful.
