Fm Theatre Power

FM Theatre Power is a Hong Kong-based independent theatre company set up in 2001. Its members consist of students and graduates of universities and the Academy of Performing Arts (APA). It has presented more than 30 productions and 300 workshops in the past years. We believe drama comes from life, and drama can change our life too. Theatre should also enhance channels of communication among people. We strongly support the notion that theatre should be by the people, for the people and of the people. “Theatre of the People. Theatre for the People and Theatre by the People” is widely recognised among public drama groups. This is also agreed and used by FMTP. Everyone, including youths, should have a chance to build what they need. Theatre is life, and we should allow young people to participate and understand for themselves the truth of life. We believe that educational drama supplements, instead of contradicts, the inadequacy of formal education. This is why FMTP discusses with youths topics like sexual inclination, AIDS, human rights and equality of the sexes through theatre. Youths are also provided with the chance to experience life through theatre and apply their experience to real-life situations afterwards. The most commonly used educational drama formats these days are “Forum Theatre” and “Playback Theatre”. With the objective of “continuous learning, continuous practice”, FMTP has, since its establishment, supported its members in joining various drama workshops including Philippe Gaulier physical theatre and Clown Workshop, Jonathan Fox psychological theatre, Jo Salas and Veronica Needa playback theatre, Keith Johnstone and theatre sport, forum theatre, etc.
