Food Ladder

Food Ladder is an Australian not-for-profit transforming child nutrition, learning and wellbeing through climate-smart food systems embedded in schools. We install and support AI-enabled greenhouses that double as living classrooms. Students grow fresh food year-round while learning STEM, sustainability and enterprise skills through real-world projects. The result is healthier kids, stronger attendance and engagement, and practical pathways into future careers. Rather than providing short-term food relief, Food Ladder builds long-term food security and food literacy by combining: • Agritech (hydroponic, climate-resilient greenhouses) • EdTech (AI curriculum tools, STEM learning, carbon analytics) • Teacher development (AI and sustainability training through partners including IBM and the University of Sydney) • Community participation (families, Elders and local industry) With more than 50 school systems operating across every state and territory, Food Ladder is demonstrating a scalable, systems-based response to food insecurity, digital inclusion and student wellbeing. Participating schools report higher attendance and engagement, stronger community connection, significant time-savings for teachers, and meaningful enterprise opportunities for students. Food Ladder is currently expanding its national network and transitioning toward a sustainable membership model that reduces reliance on philanthropy. We are seeking aligned partners to help accelerate this work and bring long-term food systems, STEM learning and wellbeing outcomes to more young people across Australia.
