For Dottir

For Dottir is a New York-based Leather Goods & Accessories label founded by Daniel Xu and June Cao in 2018. Its brand DNA originated from the Nordic culture, where fishing is one of the most prominent industries. For Dottir utilizes fish skins (such as Salmon, Eel, Cod, and Arapaima) to create its products - these pescatarian leathers are byproduct from the fishing/food industry, a raw material that would otherwise be discarded and wasted. No animal is being killed for the sole purpose of making our products. The name “For Dottir” is Icelandic for “For Daughter”: in their tradition, women’s last name is their father’s first name plus the suffix “dottir” (e.g. Iceland Prime Minister - Katrín Jakobsdóttir and Academy Award-winner Hildur Guônadóttir). We believe although not every woman is someone’s wife or someone’s mother, all women are someone’s daughter - we aim to create beautiful and soulful pieces for every daughter out there.
