Free Hearts

Free Hearts is a Tennessee statewide organization led by formerly incarcerated women that provides support, education, advocacy and organizing families impacted by incarceration with the ultimate goals of reuniting families and strengthening communities. Our vision is to be free. We are manifesting an inclusive community that accepts differences, always learning, teaching, and supporting. As we grow together collectively, we are creating a community-centered society by finding the balance between individualism and collectivism, with absolute freedom, liberty, and justice. To Be Free-PARTICIPATORY DEFENSE (Participatory Defense Hub, Bail Fund Land Trust, Clemency Works)-FREE THE VOTE (Voter Restoration, Fines & Fees Fund, and Jail Voting)-POLICY CHANGE & CAMPAIGNS (Changing laws and policies, and issues campaigns) Inclusive Community-DIRECT SERVICES & ALTERNATIVES (Free Minds, Counseling & Case Management, Inside Out [jail, juvenile, prison programs], Outside In [school program], Mother's Day Out [jail visitation program], Christmas/Holiday, TN Prison Books Project, Transportation, Phase 2 Reentry, Reimagining Communities, developing other alternatives) Community Centered Society: COMMUNITY BUILDING & COOPERATIVES (community organizing, base building, other community building efforts, youth groups, fellowships, New Economy of Tennessee Fund, building infrastructure through cooperative businesses and building a cooperative ecosystem in Tennessee) COMMUNICATIONS, RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT (story based strategy, social media, email campaigns, public education, toolkits, reports, press, organizational communications, donor engagement, grant writing, organizational development)
