French Institute On Central Asian Studies
Created in 1993, IFEAC is under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has the status of a CNRS service and research unit (UAR 3140). Its main mission is to support French and Central Asian researchers working on the region in archaeology and in all disciplines of the humanities and social sciences (history, sociology, ethnology, anthropology, linguistics, political science, economics, geography, etc.) The Institute’s geographical competence extends over the five Central Asian republics (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) and is also interested in the dynamics that link the region to the neighboring territories of Russia (Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Siberia), Afghanistan, Iran (Khorasan), China (Xinjiang) and Mongolia.
