A canvas for (re)connecting generations In developing FRIEDA, founders Thomas Steinborn and David Wong aim at broadening and changing the conversation about aging by acknowledging the growing human, economic, demographic and social challenges; and by offering a humane solution based on redefined intergenerational connections that benefit all involved. A safe space for a new community of values Steinborn and Wong envision spaces and communities not defined by age, financial means, professional occupation, or religious beliefs, but by universal humanist values. Since opening its doors in 2015, FRIEDA has offered a safe and respectful space where people of all ages and diverse backgrounds come together, to meet, eat, drink, share, learn, and create. FRIEDA embraces mutual respect, empathy, curiosity, open mindedness, and inclusivity, nurturing along the way customers with food, art and culture. A cafe with a program of activities The café, located in the Historic District of Philadelphia, offers breakfast, lunch and brunch serving a European-inspired seasonal menu freshly prepared with ingredients sourced from local partners. In addition to delicious food, people are surrounded by artwork adorning our 16-foot walls, and advertising for a movie projection, a community supper, an artist talk, language conversation groups, excursions and guided tours to museums, among others… as many opportunities for people to come together at FRIEDA and beyond. FRIEDA + FRIEDAcommunity (501c3) As part of the wider community, FRIEDA emphasizes fair-wage jobs, inclusive hiring, and service to the neighborhood, all with the support of our customers and the members of FRIEDAcommunity (our affiliated 501c3 established in October 2020), many of whom also volunteer with us.
