Our diverse international team at Technical University of Darmstadt's Functional Materials division delves into both fundamental and applied research, spanning crucial areas such as energy conversion, mobility, cooling technology, medical advancements, robotics, and the intricate science of hydrogen liquefaction and storage. We specialize in cutting-edge nanostructured magnetic materials, employing comprehensive analysis and modeling techniques across all scales, from atomic structures to full device functionality. With this approach, we pioneer the development of innovative multi-functional materials, covering their synthesis, processing, and comprehensive property characterization. We investigate how these materials exhibit multi-responsiveness when integrated into engineering components, responding to various stimuli and operating environments. Our focus lies particularly in addressing the criticality of technology metals and emphasizing the design of materials and devices with circularity in mind, right from the outset. At the heart of our group's mission is the recognition that the shift towards renewable energy technologies fundamentally hinges on the evolution of materials.
