Funwe Seed

Funwe Seed was a certified Maize and Legume seed producing company in Malawi established in 2001. In its hay days, the company used to produce 6% of the seed used in Malawi and employed about 200 permanent staff. The company had 543 Agro dealer outlets across Malawi and also supplied seed to ATC, Kulima Gold, ICRISAT, Inter Aide and FAO. The company also exported seed to Zambia. Funwe Seed used to produce Hybrid Maize Seed like MH 26 (Chiphona),MH 30, OPV like ZM 623, ZM721 and ZM621. The company also used to produce legume seeds like Beans, Pigeon Peas, Soya Beans, Cow Peas, Beans and Ground Nuts (CG7) and Chitala. Funwe also used to produce fruit and tree seedlings. In 2019 the company closed shop as a result of strategic drift and strategic wear out.
