Gaia Certification Ltd is a for profit social enterprise founded to transform the current exploration and production practices of the petroleum industry. Through a global certification system, the Gaia Standard, Gaia Certification Ltd. creates the market conditions needed to encourage and reward oil exploration and production undertaken in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. In developing the Gaia Standard, Gaia creates a new marketplace for consumer products produced from petroleum and its derivatives. For the first time, through Gaia Certified Products, consumers have the ability to choose between petroleum-based products which have been produced under stringent environmental and social guidelines, and those that have not. By selling Gaia Certified Products, petroleum producers, consumer manufacturers and retailers are able to distinguish themselves from their competition and satisfy consumer demand for greater social and environmental responsibility.
