The company was founded in Chicago, IL in 1969 as The Famous Jackass Leather Company because of our founder, Richard Gallagher’s, stubborn adherence to high quality standards. Jackass, as it was commonly called, was originally a custom leather shop and showroom displaying every imaginable leather product. The most well-known product Galco created in Chicago was the Jackass shoulder holster. It quickly became a favorite of detectives & undercover cops and even found its way to Hollywood, where it was regularly featured on the Miami Vice TV Series. In the 80’s the name of the company was changed to Galco (Great American Leather Company) International, LTD and moved to Phoenix, AZ. It was there the current factory was built, which includes an in-house foundry, machine shop, shipping & fulfillment center, and Galco’s global HQ. Galco continues to be known for the highest level of quality in firearm holsters & is regularly chosen by law enforcement officers and military personnel for their service weapons. Galco builds its products “For those who demand the best. And know the difference.” We have a passion for high quality American craftsmanship, holsters that are fast, safe & easy to use, and products that look as good as they work. We value safety above all else and our customer’s trust is not something we take lightly. Our holsters, ammo carriers, and accessories are extensively field tested by Galco employees with extensive military, law enforcement, training and CCW backgrounds, as well as top-tier instructors and operators. While form always follows function at Galco, quality & aesthetics are something we build into each product. We believe gun carriers should build a ‘holster wardrobe’ and offer a multitude of stylish carry options for pistols & revolvers. These include IWB, belt, paddle, ankle, pocket and our signature line of shoulder holsters. We also offer a broad line of field holsters meant for carry by outdoorsmen and hunters.
