Galgos Algorithms And Optimization

Galgos – Algorithms and Optimization is a research laboratory associated with the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio. The lab focuses on the development of algorithmic, optimization, and simulation methods for complex decision-making problems arising in medium- and large-scale systems. Our work combines classical algorithm design, mathematical programming, stochastic and combinatorial optimization, and, when relevant, machine learning techniques. A central goal is to bridge theory and practice, developing rigorous quantitative methods with direct applicability to real-world problems in areas such as transportation, logistics, and large-scale operational systems. Lab members are encouraged to build strong expertise in quantitative and computational methods, with an emphasis on modeling, algorithmic rigor, and reproducible research. The quality of the research carried out at Galgos is reflected in publications in leading journals and conferences in Computer Science and Operations Research. In addition to research, Galgos offers advanced courses and consulting services for industry partners.
