Gamswitch Company Ltd

Gamswitch is a company established by the Central Bank of The Gambia and a few private investors to be a vehicle for rapid development of the retail electronic payment industry in the country. Gamswitch is currently the only Electronic Payment Switch in The Gambia that operates on a National scale. Gamswitch provides a robust platform for the full online integration of all commercial banks, of billing systems, of international payment gateways and of electronic channels such as ATMs, POS, Web and Mobile. Gamswitch also provides online daily settlement of all participants on its network via the Central Bank RTGS system. The motivation by the Central Bank to participate in the Gamswitch initiative was driven by the following • To enable interoperability of domestic cards and sharing of ATM, POS and other e-Payment infrastructure, thereby reducing the investments being made by individual banks and also improving the return on banks’ investments • To position The Gambia as a financial and economic hub by operating an open, secure, value driven electronic payment infrastructure • To provide least cost electronic payment services to banks, government agencies and utilities, corporates, merchants, cardholders and other processors in The Gambia • To connect to International networks as well as interconnect to switches across Africa, thereby enable interoperability of cards issued and ensure seamless acceptance of all International and African cards in The Gambia.
