Gate Science is a clinical stage company developing the first and only SINGLE solution to manage the entire cycle of pain associated with major surgery. The team is led by co-founders who have started six successful companies and launched nine products in the orthopedic space. Our first product, RELAY, entered the clinic in Q4 of 2023 with a read out expected in Q1 in of 2024 and launch in Q4 2025. Following approximately 50 million surgeries in US each year, 2.4 million Americans become opioid dependent. Further, opioids do not consistently control pain, and without adequate pain control, 20-25% of patients progress to chronic persistent pain following major procedures. Gate Science has developed a novel medical device, RELAY, that combines two proven pain management modalities in a single platform - Nerve Block, commonly used to treat surgical pain, and Neurostimulation, commonly used to treat chronic pain. RELAY fits in to standard clinical routines, is placed by the anesthesiologist prior to surgery, and primary nerve block is delivered. Neurostimulation is activated in the recovery room. With the waxing and waning of pain in the weeks following surgery, the patient controls the amplitude of neuromodulation with a smartphone app, Gate Keeper. RELAY promises to be the first and only SINGLE product that can safely control the entire cycle of pain associated with major surgery. Gate Keeper uniquely provides entrée to the digital realm. Linking the app to the cloud and integrating it with patient records will allow clinicians to optimize patient-specific therapeutic regimens. Gate's initial focus is orthopedic surgeries (18 million procedures annually), prioritizing: knee, shoulder, and foot and ankle.
