Gateaux Dulce

At Gateaux Dulce, we create low-sugar, high-protein desserts that help you celebrate all the sweet and rich moments of life, without the guilt and negative effects related to sugar addiction. We create personalized high-flavour chocolate truffles, layer cakes and homemade confections inspired by the Romanian, Canadian, American, and other European culture desserts. My name is Karen and I’m a huge foodie, so that also translates to being curious and experimental in the kitchen! I love cooking since I started to experiment as an adult, but I’ve been initiated to baking as a young girl helping my grandmas in the kitchen. When I was diagnosed with ADHD, I realized I had an addiction to sugar, which worsened the problematic behaviours, mood swings, and difficulties regulating brain functions like focusing and prioritisation. That is how Gateaux Dulce, my home-based bakery, came to be. I chose Dulce, because it's a beautiful word that evokes that melt-in-your-mouth texture (think: dulce de leche) but also because it means sweet in Romanian, which is half of my heritage, and European flavors are a big inspiration for me in the kitchen.
