Gemasc

GEMASC is a research group at Federal University of Santa Maria, which is included in the postgraduate program of Civil Engineering with the participation of undergraduate students. The research groups works within a interdisciplinary environment with the aim of contributed with the development and characterization of traditional and non-conventional construction materials. In this sense, the group is focused on cementitious materials (mortar and concrete) produced with conventional Portland cement, as well as alternative binders (mainly alkali-activated type binders or geopolymers). Different industrial wastes and by-products are sassed for their potential re-use. Therefore, the materials are characterized from nanoscale, and its mechanical and durability performance can be predicted/quantified.
