Whilst Bath is a World Heritage Site and has a veneer of wealth and prosperity, it also has 5 of the most socially deprived areas in the UK. Two areas are in the top 10% of the most deprived areas in the UK and the other three areas fall in the top 20% of highly deprived areas. B & NES is one of the more expensive areas to live in the UK, yet residential wages are below the national average. People come to Genesis because of a range of multiple complex needs that make life difficult for them. These include homelessness and housing issues, poverty and/or financial issues, substance misuse, mental ill-health and self-neglect. Most of the clients who visit Life Project also report having experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences. Many of our clients are being disproportionately affected by the current cost-of-living crisis, causing demand for our services to drastically rise. Genesis Trust Bath is not a commissioned service, and we pride ourselves on being an independent charity. This means that we can be flexible in the ways we work with clients to help them achieve significant change in their lives. We can work with people over a long period of time, or on an ad hoc basis and seize the moments when people are receptive to change. We focus on helping people to identify their future goals, overcome barriers that they face and start working towards those personal goals. We are also accessible to all adults, regardless of their financial situation, geographical heritage or any other factor. We recognise that poverty is not just about lacking material resources but can encompass a complex web of factors including a lack of relationships and support identity and purpose. We offer a unique, personalised approach which honours and values everyone, and treats them as an individual. We recognise that everyone has a unique history and their own personal goals for the future.
