Georgia Mountain Coaster

Georgia Mountain Coaster is a European style Alpine coaster. It is one of Helen’s key attractions and is open year round, seven days a week. The coaster is located within walking distance of downtown Helen—just steps away from the Bavarian shops, beer gardens, and the Chattahoochee River. Georgia Mountain Coaster is a popular attraction in the area in part because of this unique and beautiful natural setting. Another attractive feature of the ride is that riders can control their own speed which gives people more freedom to choose the level of thrill they would most enjoy. This makes the ride a good time for just about anyone—from coaster loving speed demons to families with small kids who might have never been on a coaster before. The ride itself is a gravity driven coaster on a stainless steel fixed track. The track is laid out on mountainous terrain and carves a path through a forest. The ride has a number of continuously running “sleds” or carts that seat one to two riders. The track is divided into two sections: an uphill and a downhill. The carts are towed to the top of the uphill track via cable. The downhill portion of the track is gravity driven and rider controlled. Patrons in the driver seat of the cart can manually control the speed their cart descends the downhill track by making use of manual brake levers positioned on the side of the carts.
