German Maritime Centre
The German Maritime Centre was founded in 2017. It is an independent institution based in Hamburg. Our members are the federal government as the main funder, five German states and the major maritime associations. Our areas of work cover entire value chains in the fields of shipbuilding and marine technology, shipping, and ports and maritime logistics. We support the maritime industry by providing information and studies on developments in markets, technologies, laws and policies. At the core of our work are issues relating to designing and implementing research, development and innovation (RD & I) in the maritime sector. Our priorities: Competitiveness - the same rules for all We analyse regulatory and political framework conditions, productivity factors and cost structures in an international context, develop proposals to standardise and simplify bureaucratic requirements and provide support in the further development of national, European and international standards, norms and regulations. Sustainability and climate change - responsibility for the environment The market and environmental regulations require sustainable solutions in order to rapidly reduce the emissions caused by maritime transport. This calls for innovative ideas for propulsion technology and energy sources. Technological change - into the future with high-tech We support the federal government in the development of new funding programmes and guidelines and with regard to European research, development and innovation projects. We analyse research and development activities, monitor trends and initiate projects and studies in key technologies. Demography and securing young talent We want to support and network stakeholders at various levels in order to promote the perception of the maritime industry as a diverse, future-orientated employer. The aim is to attract young talent and qualified career changers.
