Filmmaking in the German-speaking world is still shaped by a white gaze that usually conceptualizes diversity within cliché-ridden narratives and as an issue for marginalized groups – despite a quarter of the population in Germany and Austria having a migrant background.These diverse realities of life are, unfortunately, rarely reflected in film. We want to change that! Amidst heteronomy, racism, and the search for identity and expression in a predominantly white industry, we desperately need a safe space to support BPOC filmmakers. Through multifaceted stories and perspectives, told assertively and autonomously, we want to bring diversity into the mainstream – in front of and behind the camera. We want to make film a relevant medium for all, where everyone feels seen and inspired to participate.
